Alpine Dairy Goats
Echolight proudly breeds quality ADGA American Alpine dairy goats.
We hold memberships with the American Dairy Goat Association, Alpines International Club, and participate in DHIR Milk Test and Linear Appraisal.
Our breeding program goals include striving for strong, healthy does with longevity and natural parasite resistance who just MILK. Our milking schedule is rather fluid (i.e., irregular milking times from day to day) for most of the year so we can accommodate other activities, and we try not to coddle our animals. We give them the best we can of everything they need, and the rest is up to them!
We are aiming for does that can easily perform well on extended lactations, with steady volume (not extremes), and above average components. Our animals tend to be moderately sized and slow to mature (we don't push for unnaturally rapid growth). We also value strong correctly angulated front end assemblies, deep barrels, correct legs that don't turn in or out, pretty heads, and dairy character with very high, wide rear udder arches. Temperament, though often overlooked in livestock, is also important to us and we prefer easygoing, low-stress animals that are far more interested in eating than getting into trouble or picking fights. All of the animals here have combinations of most of these traits. We are also working on quality POLLED (naturally hornless) genetics here.
Our kids are bottle-raised on CAE Prevention, we minimally vaccinate, and use herbs and natural remedies wherever we can to promote good health. We are not afraid to use conventional medicine as needed, if we must, but consider it a last resort. We take a preventative approach in how we handle, care for, and feed our herd. We try to be as honest and open as possible - with ourselves, and with others - about the flaws and virtues each of our animals possess.
Whole herd CAE and JOHNES NEGATIVE
Our goats are free of CL abscesses and Soremouth.
Want to learn more about what these serious diseases are, and how we prevent them? Read more here.

Reservation Policy:
ADGA Registered Kids
You can get on the list one of two ways:
Paid Reservations - Deposits of $100 will be accepted on the 1st and 2nd buck and doe kids from each breeding unless stated otherwise. Does we plan to retain a kid from we will accept reservations on the 2nd kid only. Reservation deposits are always refundable or transferable in the event a suitable kid is not born. Deposits are NOT refundable if you choose to forfeit the kid.
Free Waitlist - If the paid reservations on a breeding are full, names will be added to a waiting list on a first-come first-serve basis. If we end up with something available for you, we will contact you. You will have 24hrs to respond before we move on to the next person on the list or post the kid for sale.
All kids are started on bottles and go to their new homes disbudded, tattooed, dewormed/vaccinated (as needed) and ADGA registered. Pre-reserved kids must be picked up within 14 days of birth unless other arrangements have been agreed upon in advance.
Notes On Buck Kids:
We tend to be picky about the quality of buck kids we will allow to leave intact. Contact us early to discuss your needs if you are looking for a herdsire, as we often tend to wether or humanely cull extra bucks early on. Intact bucks are priced the same as doe kids. We will allow buck reservations on first fresheners, but we hold the final say on whether we will allow a sale or not once we see the dam's udder.
Milking Does:
Milkers start at $550. If you are interested in a specific doe that is not currently listed for sale, contact us to discuss options.
Shipping and Transportation:
Any animals shipped or transported out of state require a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) to comply with state laws. The fee for a CVI is $50.00 and is the responsibility of the buyer.
We are willing to help arrange ground transport, or can occasionally help haul ourselves as well. Kids can be shipped via airline for approximately $400 total (crate, CVI, and airline fees). If you have any questions about options for getting an animal to you, please inquire.

"Josie"
SG Abundant Acres Max Melba 1*M
9-11 EEEE 90
Pedigree
Cou Blanc
2013 Grade Alpine (75%)
Josie is our highest producing doe despite being short for an Alpine, with multiple lactations averaging well over 3000lbs and well over 15,000lbs lifetime milk volume production. She's shown persistence in late lactation as well! She has that deep, deep dairy wedge shape we adore and is very open ribbed with an elegant neck and head. Josie also has an incredible, dreamy rear udder (44 rear udder height, 49 rear udder arch, 37 medial attachment, 24 teat placement for 2018 LA), pancake flat rump from thurl to thurl, pretty legs that don't turn in or out, and a super sweet easygoing personality to top it off. Her longevity is shown by her permanent score of EX90 at almost 10 years of age.
Josie's daughters are American; her sons are Grades.

Gabby is the herd queen! She is a powerfully built doe, deep-bodied and wide with beautiful front legs that don't turn out, a stunning front end assembly that is hard to find in Alpines today, flat rump thurl to thurl, strong pretty head and lovely topline. We love her near-extreme rear udder height! She does only have half of a functioning udder due to scar tissue; despite this handicap and some struggles with subclinical mastitis, she has produced admirably on milk test. We almost lost Gabby to a rough kidding with quads in 2017, but she went on to deliver healthy triplets the following year and continues to amaze us with her tough constitution - we're starting to think she's indestructible!

We LOVE "pretty" bucks, and this guy is no exception! Onyx is tall, wide, and strong with a handsome head and extremely correct frame. He tracks perfectly straight in front on the move. He is an easygoing, friendly guy, too! So far he seems to be throwing great toplines, correct front legs, wide rumps, dairy character and the shapely yet strong Nix heads.
Onyx's maternal granddam was a top 10 doe in 2014 and followed that year with another 5000lb lactation. His dam, Dandi, was just shy of 4000lbs for her second lactation as well!! Sadly, Dandi passed away due to kidding complications in 2018, so we are honored to have one of her last sons working in our herd. Onyx is taking very much after his dam in style, so her legacy will live on. His littermate sister freshened at just over a year old and is milking up to 15lbs per day!!! We were pleasantly surprised at Onyx's O1 carrier status for casein, as we have been toying with the idea of breeding for allergy-friendly, casein-free milk (the O1 gene is a seemingly uncommon, non-functioning variant and is associated with a lack of casein production).
Thanks to Little Nix's Alpines for sending us Onyx!

POLLED Cou Blanc
2022 American Alpine
Tzinbad is out of a repeat breeding that we hoped for a polled buckling from, and here he is! This strapping young man looks much like his mamma, with a lovely balance of strength and dairy character on a very correct frame. Tzinbad will be used heavily in fall 2022.
